Tim Tomlinson

Tim Tomlinson was born in Brooklyn to Jessica Marsalese and Bob Tomlinson. He was raised in the dull, desperate suburbs of Long Island, which he escaped by dropping out of school and sticking out his thumb. His short story collection This Is Not Happening to You has been likened to “licking something bitter from a very sharp knife.” The poems in his collection Requiem for the Tree Fort I Set on Fire have been noted for “a Whitmanesque sense of acceptance and openness as well as an ultimate skepticism and need for deflation.” He is a co-founder of New York Writers Workshop, he teaches in New York University’s Global Liberal Studies, and he lives, once again, in his native Brooklyn.
